Work with us
Looking for a new adventure? Join our family!
Are you ready to embark on an adventure with a team that feels like family? We’re on the lookout for passionate individuals to join our crew here at Tromsø Villmarkssenter. With around 60 team members in the winter and 25 in the summer, we thrive on companionship and teamwork.
We have a variety of positions available, ranging from guiding Northern Lights tours to leading expeditions through the wilderness on snowshoes or dog sleds. Working with us means engaging in various tasks, ensuring each day brings new experiences. Therefore, it’s crucial that you appreciate a dynamic work environment.
If you’re a social butterfly who thrives outdoors, harbors a deep love for dogs, and enjoys meeting new people, you might just be the perfect fit.

This is the main Chef position you never thought would come — if it’s for you.
Tromsø Villmarkssenter is located 25 minutes outside Tromsø in Northern Norway. We are a family-run activity center with around 200 sled dogs and staff from all over the world.
In winter, we offer dogsledding, snowshoe trips, Northern Lights visits, overnight stays in our Sami tents (lavvos), and events in our conference center. In summer, we welcome guests to our Husky Café, puppy training, and husky hikes. The conference center also hosts events, family gatherings, and company dinners all year round. Around 30,000 guests visit us every year, and in high season we are a team of about 70 people.
About the Position
We are now looking for someone to continue our reputation for quality food for guests and staff. Most of what we serve is homemade, using local produce whenever possible, and seasonal food for events. This is not a typical hotel or restaurant position — this is Villmarkssenter.
The days can be hectic and varied. You’ll have dogs all around you (not in the kitchen, but maybe waiting outside your door). The kitchen is small but clean, so you need to be well-organized. You must be flexible and prepared for long days during the busiest periods, but some days will be shorter if you work efficiently.
- High season: November–March/April — set menus for activities, breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for guests, plus staff meals and snacks.
- Summer season: Mid-June–mid-August — Husky Café with homemade cakes, pastries, and light food.
Who We’re Looking For
You have a passion for cooking and are happy to take full ownership of the kitchen. Your tasks will include:
- Creating menus for events and conferences.
- Staying in close contact with suppliers, handling orders and deliveries.
- Maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.
- Keeping control over food costs.
- Preparing meals for staff — including the occasional favourite cake for a birthday.
You must:
- Speak good English (our daily work language).
- Communicate well and work closely with coordinators, the event manager, and other staff.
- Handle last-minute changes with calm and creativity.
- Love dogs and enjoy contributing to a healthy, fun work environment.
We are looking for someone — maybe a couple — interested in staying for more than one season, hopefully many years. For the right person, we can offer a one-year contract to see if you enjoy life with us in the long term.
Life in the Arctic
We are an all-year-round activity center, from the dark winter months to the midnight sun season. You must be prepared for:
- Winter storms and rain.
- Sunlight all night in summer.
- Weather that can change quickly — sometimes without warning.
Accommodation can be arranged. Having a car is helpful, as public transport does not match our work hours.
Practical Information
- Start date: As soon as possible, no later than 1st November.
- Application deadline: 1st September.
- Contact: bente@villmarkssenter.no for more info.
- Only qualified applicants will be contacted. If you are not in the area, shortlisted candidates will have a video interview via WhatsApp.
We hope to find your application and welcome you to the Villmarkssenter family.
