Racing

Dogsledding is not just an occupation - it’s a lifestyle

Have you heard of Finnmarksløpet? It’s the longest dog sled race in Europe, stretching up to 1200 km across Northern Norway. Every year, some of our dogs, raised and trained by Tove Sørensen, take part in the race.

Tove has been involved in Finnmarksløpet since 1995 and has completed it 19 times. She was there from the very beginning and remains the woman who has started the race more times than anyone else.

In 2006, she also completed the Iditarod in Alaska – the world’s longest dog sled race, covering around 1600 km through Arctic wilderness and extreme weather conditions.

How Racing Still Shapes Life with Our Huskies

Racing is still an important part of Villmarkssenter’s DNA today. The experience and knowledge gained from long-distance racing continue to influence our training methods, breeding programme, and daily work with the dogs.

The same endurance, teamwork, and trust needed on the trail are values we bring into every dog sledding experience and guest tour in Tromsø.
